RevOps alignment: connect sales, marketing and customer success
A practical framework for Revenue Operations that breaks silos between sales, marketing and customer success using shared CRM data.
RevOps alignment: connect sales, marketing and customer success
Revenue Operations, or RevOps, is the discipline of aligning sales, marketing and customer success around one set of data, one process and one goal: sustainable revenue growth.
The CRM is the shared layer that makes RevOps real. Without it, teams optimize in isolation and blame each other when numbers miss.
Define the single source of truth
Every team should pull their metrics from the same CRM records. Lead status, opportunity stage, customer health score and churn reason must mean the same thing to everyone. Document the definitions and enforce them in the CRM.
Shared metrics
- Pipeline coverage by source and segment.
- Customer acquisition cost including marketing spend and sales hours.
- Lifetime value tied to product usage and expansion revenue.
- Churn and expansion rates visible to both success and sales.
Remove handoff friction
When a lead becomes sales-qualified, marketing does not wash its hands. It provides context: content consumed, engagement history and persona signals. When a deal closes, sales hands the customer to success with documented expectations, not just a signed contract.
Build a shared meeting rhythm
A weekly RevOps standup reviews pipeline changes, campaign performance, support tickets that indicate churn risk and expansion signals. The CRM dashboard becomes the agenda.
Tools and ownership
HubSpot is the operating system, but tools do not align teams. Assign one RevOps owner who has authority to change processes across departments. Otherwise every team optimizes its own workflow and the CRM becomes a battlefield.
When RevOps works, growth stops being a debate and starts being a system.
